Mamaye has a percussive groove influenced from Brazilian music but played with the cajones which gives a different feel. Includes a great afroperuvian guitar riff played by Felix Casaverde and nice horn sections by Watussi. Also used in some of the other tracks, you can listen to the batajones which is a mixture of the Peruvian cajon and the African Batan drum. The lyric talks about how complete freedom/equality has not been achived and we are just getting used to live like that. It is singed in a form of asking Mamaye for the answers, and invented character that represents the old wise black lady.
lyrics
O mama, O mama, O mamaye,
Dime Mamaye
como es la verdad
falso es por dentro
el q guia tu andar
dicen los esclavos
que nada cambiara
ya no suena mas
ese grito de libertad
O mama O mama O mamaye (x4)
Dime mamaye
Si el dia llegara
Cuando no haya mas
Cadenas pa arrastrar
Saltan mis hermanos
De chincha a Senegal
Suenan los tambores
Ritmo y libertad
